Access Audit: Plaza PPUM
PPUM Plaza was built in 2020 to connect the existing buildings in Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaysia (PPUM) with the aim to control crowd movement and the traffic in the area. As part of the initiative, access audit for universal design compliance is conducted to ensure a seamless connectivity that is friendly to all types of users with different abilities, especially Persons with Disabilities (PWD) and the elderly.

01 / Placing bollards as a barrier to prevent out-of-control vehicles from hitting pedestrians
02 / Provide platform lift atau wheelchair stairlift as an alternative to ramp in nearby stairs
03 / Ensure that kiosk doors open inwards to avoid movement disruptions on the pedestrian walkway
04 / Provide arm-support on existing benches

05 / Provide foam padding on the wall to reduce impacts in the event of collision
06 / Current photo: Ramp with 1500mm width allows only one wheelchair access at a time.
Recommended ramp measurement for busy corridors is >1800mm to allow a two-way wheelchair access
07 / Modify ramp slope to 1:20 as outlines in MS1184:2014 Clause 8.2.
Placing railing on the wall and stand railing to prevent users from hitting wall edges
08 / Widen the pathway at the drop-off area and ensures no signpost or objects on the pedestrian walkway to better navigate spaces for the visually impaired person
